GHARIN, THE HALF-ELF

Known as an incorrigible seducer in his youth, Gharin has been Allwënn's inseparable companion since childhood, growing up in the same forest and being banished together on the day of Gharin's banishment (elves banish their half-breeds when they come of age). They have walked together ever since, forming a strange pair that is undoubtedly the epitome of friendship. Much more elven in nature, Gharin is easier to get along with than his companion. He is more sensitive and nostalgic, more understanding and open. However, he has never quite got over the rejection of the elves because of his mixed human blood.

SOROM, THE ARTEFACT SEEKER

Archaeologist, scholar, mercenary, adventurer… Sorom is a young lionid in the prime of his life, with no qualms about taking on a new master—so long as the pay is lavish and the challenge matches his intellectual prowess. 'Rha is the right-hand man of Archduke Velguer, one of the most influential figures within the inner circle of the cult of the goddess Kallah, Mistress of the Night and the Bloody Moon. He is the go-to man for all things underhanded —an obedient, fanatical henchman, ever willing to fulfil his superior’s every whim. Rexor is a veteran lionid, his once-proud mane now completely darkened with age. As the sole active Rune Seeker, he bears the title of Warden of Knowledge, protector of the Chambers of Knowledge. Though the Rune Seekers ceased to exist as an active order centuries ago, their legacy and commitment live on through the rank of Warden of Knowledge —a solitary Seeker who inherits the burden and responsibility of his ancestors: to safeguard all past knowledge and gather every piece of present-day wisdom within his reach, thereby contributing his share to the Seekers’ ancestral mission. The role of Warden of Knowledge is internationally recognised and respected, granting Rexor a moral authority on par with kings, warlords, princes, and emperors—who often seek and heed his counsel. He is now tasked with guarding the Chambers and training a successor to carry on his duty. Yet, in the tumultuous times he has lived through, this is the least of his concerns.

I loved the book from the first chapter. (...) It alternates characters, chapters and narrative speed. It creates a world out of nothing, so it has kilometric footnotes, but it makes you part of it. Plots that hook you mercilessly. I loved it, the best independent film I've seen in a long time...

I found it a pleasantly interesting book. I am familiar with the fantasy genre although I am not a fervent consumer of it. I enjoy horror, crime, thriller, suspense and comedy; all I ask from a book is to have a good time reading it, a good plot and to leave me wanting more. This book has so far fulfilled my expectations and I will continue to follow this saga closely.
I have to say that what most caught my attention was the descriptive strength of this author, capable of creating atmospheres to such an extent that at times I thought I was sitting in a cinema seat. Another interesting point in favour of this novel is that, despite a certain rupture that I found the fact of the reunion of two worlds to be extremely disconcerting (almost traumatic, to be honest), it is resolved little by little and with ingenuity. You get to put yourself in the shoes of some characters who, without eating or drinking, find themselves in the middle of the cruel world of Jade Blossom. Honestly, I don't think it's easy at all. Highly recommended.

La Flor de Jade is one of the best fantasy sagas I have ever read. It is made up of several books: The Envoy (this book), The Circle Opens, The Book of Heirs and one or two other unpublished parts. The characters are very well defined, each one with a particular personality and a unique way of facing life and problems. From the tormented Alwënn to the delicate Claudia, there is a whole cast of characters, with no one to spare and an original backstory full of hatred, religion, politics, prophecy and magic. Each race has its own particularities and there is a constant clash of personalities.
It is necessary to say that this first book is difficult to read at first, but once you get past the first impression and continue with the saga, you never want it to end. The first part is apparently several unconnected stories with jumps of time and plot without warning, but in the end everything is related. The first book alone is an unfinished story that makes no sense on its own. Only by reading this first book you can't draw conclusions about the rest of the saga because the evolution of the story is unexpected in many aspects, although it is predictable in others.
I finished the first book without knowing if I was going to read the second, but as soon as I continued reading the saga I was hooked. I was already hopelessly lost.

Certes pour l'instant le roman n'est disponible qu'en espagnol et en anglais, j'espère que bientôt il sera traduit en français.
Dès le début le lecteur est emporté dans un monde digne de Tolkien, avec ses légendes ,ses peuples et leurs chroniques, tout un travail de copiste, l'intrigue est plantée et de pages en pages ce n'est que rebondissements qui m'on tenue en haleine.
Ce premier tome je l'espère vous entrainera comme moi a vouloir connaitre les aventures de ces cinq jeunes qui devront decouvrir leur destin dans un monde fantastique et cruel peuplé d'elfes de nains d'orques et de tant d'autres espèces et civilisations étranges....
For the moment, the novel is only available in English and Spanish, but I hope it will soon be translated into French.
From the very beginning, the reader is drawn into a world worthy of Tolkien, with its legends, its people and its chronicles, all the work of a copyist, the plot is etched in stone and from page to page there are only twists and turns that kept me on tenterhooks.
I hope this first volume will inspire you, as it did me, to want to know more about the adventures of these five young people who will have to discover their destiny in a fantastic and cruel world populated by elves, dwarves, orcs and so many other strange species and civilisations.....

The best fantasy book I've read in years. Although the story is not entirely original and contains many typical elements of the genre, its density, details and ramifications create a complex world in which it is very easy to become immersed. In the following volumes of the saga (at the time of writing I have read the first four) the story turns around, progressively making the reader wonder where he or she stands in the conflict.
The authors' work must have been enormous to develop such a complex and detailed plot. There are countless footnotes and side stories that make up the most complex universe I have read since Tolkien. It is certainly not a novel written in a couple of days (or, at least, it seems that way).
If there is something to reproach this first book of the saga is the abuse of adjectivation. This is largely corrected in the second and subsequent books.
And finally, I haven't given it 5 stars because I liked the second book even more, so I had to leave some room for improvement for it :-)

I love fantasy and science fiction literature and when I got my kindle paperwhite I decided to try to buy a book in the shop, to see how it was going.
I saw this book that was cheap, with an interesting theme and written by a Spanish author "indie" and I decided to go for it without hesitation. There are not many Spanish authors in this world (or at least I didn't know about it) and I think we should support them deservedly.
Well, I must say that the beginning was a bit disappointing. I found the prose too contrived, always looking for the postcard photo, everything too typical and hackneyed.
It must be said that everything in this book is a copy of others, it's like a collage of Lord of the Rings and Dungeon&Dragons, more like the latter. But this mix, I must say, is also one of its virtues since you will find elves, dwarves, dragons, minotaurs and an endless number of races. All with the prototypical image we have of them.
In general the characters are excessively solemn and the human protagonists lack personality, especially the supposed chronicler who is bland as hell. Personally I would have added some of the rogue style of Game of Thrones and would have eliminated more than one...
That said, I must say that the saga is gaining as we move forward in it. The second book is better and the third is even better.
The story, although typical, is well handled and the action, which abounds, is interesting.
I'm already on the third book and I'll finish the saga, no doubt.
And Remember... The Awakening is only the beginning...
